Well that was true, something amazing happens when vegetables are “Spiralized”. Not only my grandchildren enjoy the preparation, My Spiral Slicer brings out the child in us all. Fast, delicious and fun; now gourmet cooking is a party. “Grandpa I want more” is what my 5 year old granddaughter Coral and twin boys Liam and Kai, both 3. To sat they are a challenge at meal time is polite, yet they look forward to our cooking parties and now they love vegetables.
February 21st we asked a local talented photographer, Natalie Linbergh Photography, to capture this fun with the kids eating and loving My Spiral Slicer’s production. The kids realized something different was going on so they had no interest in eating, they became too excited. We had yellow squash, zucchini, cucumber, carrots, onion and sweet potato, along with all the spices and extra virgin olive oil. First we whipped up a salad with arugula and spiralized cucumber, what a fresh and pleasant texture and taste! The cucumber flavor really comes to life when spiralized. Our salad dressing was Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar and extra virgin olive oil from Costco.
Natalie is great with children and she distracted them enough for the cooks to prepare the meal. The cameras, lighting and presence of Natalie made the children too excited to simply sit so we had a kid party. You may view our photos here. You will enjoy seeing what your children will also be happy to do, eat, enjoy and love their vegetables. OK they do play with the food a bit yet we want they eating healthy foods and liking them. With My Spiral Slicer the kids are always in a fun mood, they tell me it is because they love the taste. Odd because serving them the same food as it is naturally and they say they hate it, “get that off my plate”.
For the main course we spiralized, both squashes, added a few carrots and sweet potato and began heating the skillet for sautéing the veggies. At the same time we heated a second sauce pan to prepare the pasta sauce, our choice was from the White Linen Collection Gourmet Pasta Sauces by Victoria, also sold by Costco. We added some fresh whole garlic, quick roasted in the olive oil and then added the veggies. Spiralized they cook quickly so in three minutes we were sitting down to a fast, delicious, low calorie, filling meal fit for a king.
